New Albums – Deerhunter, Sufjan Stevens, Antony and the Johnsons…

The new Deerhunter album, Halcyon Digest, was finally released on the 28th last month. Im happy to say it has been worth the wait. It may even be my favourite album by them… although i have only listened to it briefly.
Its arguably their most accessible record. Songs seem more straight forward and polished than past efforts. Have a listen…

Not long now until the new release from Sufjan Stevens, The Age of Adz, is upon us. And you can stream the whole album for free over at NPR before its release date on Oct 12.
It seems to be a new trend for bands to stream their albums in their entirety before release. I guess it may be a way of putting people off the temptation of downloading illegal album leaks, I personally think its a good idea…

And finally the magical and mysterious Antony Hegarty is back. I had the chance to see him back in 2005, after he won the Mercury music prize for the album I Am A Bird Now, and it was truely something special. Antony and the Johnsons are set to release the new album, Swanlights, on Oct 12th. You can also listen to the album in its entirety over at NPR, who fittingly describe Antony in the following way…
“Singer Antony Hegarty embodies the tragic grace and wounded dignity of a lifelong outsider who’s spent decades smearing the line between genders, and he embodies it by opening his psychic wounds in song.”
